WHAT
One Million Forgotten Moments is a public-spectacle- showcase-festival-celebration-performance which features a lineup of 100 of New York's most talented artists from the legendary to the ridiculous, to the bizarre, to the insane, to the totally mindblowing.
WHEN
The hour-long performance will take place from September 11th through the 15th, 2007, with two shows a night, at 7pm and 9pm (show times are still TBD).
WHERE
We are transforming a former porn/DVD shop on Park Row (across the street from City Hall) into a beautiful 18th-century jewelbox theater, where an audience of 25 sits IN the storefront window and watches the madness unfold on the street.
WHO
A lot of awesome artists are involved, and you can be too. If you consider yourself one of those people who put their shit out there and make nyc the amazing place that it is, AND you want to be in this performance, please read over the participation guidelines, see if you are interested, and then contact me and we'll hook it up.
WHY
One Million Forgotten Moments is a commission of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Art and Recovery program, and is designed to be a celebration of the artists and people who make nyc exciting. It's a great excuse to have a kick-ass variety show, and it's also a challenge to you to see how creative you can be on a continually shifting, engaging, live "set": a city street in New York. Maybe you'll choreograph a bike gang ballet? Or maybe you'll jump your horse through a hoop of fire? Who knows, but whatever you do be sure to check out the rules of engagement and then get in touch with me!
WHY SEPTEMBER 11th
The context of this special venue creates a magnifying lens of human interaction. I chose September 11th because it is a loaded time of year that has complex associations, and mixed wth curent political trends, contributes to a feeling of loss, helplessness and despondency. By creating a beautiful and unique venue, and a time and place for people to come together to celebrate and entertain each other, wow each other, make each other laugh and think, I hope in my idealistic way that I can contribute to a form of social healing and through art lead to a more productive and engaging society.
